Workshops
I
am very open to working with those who enjoy my music.
For some five years I have been developing a workshop format which involves composing music on the spot, sometimes with the assistance of my audience. It is challenging to be creative on demand, but the results so far have been worth the effort.
A morning workshop, usually two or three hours long, can be combined with an evening recital of my music to make a combined event. If you want a dazzling display of virtuosity from a top organist playing masterpieces of organ literature, then I'll be pleased to suggest various organist friends who fit that description.
My
recitals are rather different, because I am presenting unfamiliar pieces which
should be within the reach of capable musicians, and I discuss how these pieces
were created, how to play them and so on. I am willing to travel for such
events.
I consider my workshops and recitals to be centered on "enjoyable
education", and I have expanded this philosophy into adjudication of both
performance and compositions, at high school or college level. Adjudicating
composition is possible without having to travel. I have adjudicated for
the Virginia Teachers' Association, the Education Outreach of the Virginia
Symphony, the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission and Virginia Beach
Public Schools, among others.
